Women, Gender and Power: A new global history
How do historical developments change how women and men negotiate power?
Teach About Women is writing a new textbook: One that transforms the way we teach about the past. Beginning with the origins of agriculture and ending with current debates around women’s rights and workplace equity, this book puts women and gender relations at the center of historical inquiry. Both expansive and anecdotal, this book serves as a model for how to reframe history to focus on women’s lives: the choices they make, the influence they have, and the power they wield.
Similar in format to Cynthia Brown Stoke’s best-selling Big History: From the Big Bang to the Present (2012), Women, Gender, and Power brings a timely and vital conversation into classrooms. Just as the 1619 Project (2019) shed light on the history of race relations in America, this work unearths new perspectives to urge readers to explore the nature of power. Written primarily for high school history classrooms, Women, Gender, and Power will change how we teach about the past and spur students to imagine new and better worlds. Written with state standards in mind, this book can be integrated into Global and US History programs.
