A Nonfiction Book: Women, Gender and Power – A New Global HistoryHow do historical developments affect how women and men negotiate power? Beginning with the origins of agriculture and ending with current debates around women’s rights and workplace equity, this book puts women and gender relations at the center of historical inquiry. Both expansive and anecdotal, this book serves as a model for how to reframe history to focus on women’s as well as men’s lives.

A Curriculum: Gender-inclusive Global HistoryDesigned to replace typical global history programs, which focus primarily on men and often leave women out entirely, this two-year scope and sequence re-envisions not only what we teach in history class, but how we teach it. Central to the course will be questions on how historical events shape the ways women and men negotiate power and influence. When history programs do include women, 63% of the time they are white; 53% of the time they are in domestic roles; 2% of the time they are in the workforce. A Workshop for Teachers: The Gender Equity Institute In this 6-session workshop, we provide teachers (grades 6-12) with resources and practices to bring gender equity work into their classrooms. We use themes and questions to take a transdisciplinary approach so that our workshops are useful for teachers of every subject and a range of grade levels. Gender Equity for Middle School BoysIn collaboration with several boys schools and leading experts, TAW is creating a leadership course to instill the principles of gender equity in boys grades 4 to 8. Our program celebrates healthy, resilient masculinity and encourages boys to collaborate, communicate, and play respectfully and joyfully with all of their peers.

Pedagogy Guide: Why STEM needs girlsGirls bring a lot to the table. Lots of schools talk about how girls and young women need S.T.E.M.. While we couldn’t agree more, our pedagogy guide is based on the idea that S.T.E.M. needs girls and women. When they are part of the conversation, the solutions are better. We are honing a set of practices that make girls and young women feel like assets in science, technology, engineering, and math. Research shows that this confidence leads to long-term success in those fields.

Student Coalitions (planned for 2021)Our Gender Equity Coalitions unite teachers and students to promote equitable teaching in their schools. Depending on the school, that means running assemblies about women in history, hosting panels about feminism, or running STEM program for girls and young women. Students build leadership and campaigning skills. TAW provides grants and guidance for schools to start the Gender Equity Coalition that is right for their community.

A Database of Teaching Resources (planned for 2021)We are building an online database of resources for teaching about gender equity. This is a place students and teachers alike can find and share lessons, videos, materials, and curriculum of all kinds. We carefully vet resources to make sure they align with our mission to educate K-12 students & their teachers to be champions for gender equity. Good teaching is inclusive teaching, we make sure our resources promote racial equity and are culturally responsive to a diversity of students and teachers.
